All auditions will be held at Indian Creek Upper School, 1130 Anne Chambers Way, Crownsville, MD 21032, in the following rooms:
 
Room 152
Room 235
Room 233
 
Students should arrive 10 minutes before scheduled audition to warm up.  Check in will be in room 150 (the Band Room).
A listing of solo works is available from the Maryland Music Educators Association.
 
Note: If you are auditioning for Concert Orchestra or Symphony Orchestra, you are responsible for preparing excerpts.  Concert and Symphony excerpts are available by clicking on the links within the respective headings below.  Students are responsible for printing their excerpts from this web site.  If technical difficulties arise, please contact the CYSO by email or phone, as found on the CYSO Contact page on this site.
 
Symphony Orchestra
1.  Solo piece, without accompaniment, that best represents the students ability
2.  All Instruments: all scales - 2 octaves

Concert Orchestra
1.  Solo piece, without accompaniment, grade 5 minimum
2.  Scales: Major and minor scales up to 4 sharps and 4 flats, two octaves
3.  Excerpts for Concert Orchestra
 
Strings Orchestra (Strings II)
1.  Solo piece, without accompaniment, that best represents the students ability
2.  Scales:  Major scales up to 3 sharps and 3 flats, two octaves. Chromatic, two octaves, starting on: violin-low G, viola-low A, cello-low C, bass-low E
3.  Excerpts: None required
 
Preparatory Strings
1.  Solo piece, without accompaniment, that best represents the students ability
2.  Scales: D, G, C, F and Bb major scales, two octaves where possible.  Chromatic, two octaves, where possible: starting on; violin-low G, viola-low A, cello-low C, bass-low E
3.  Excerpt: None required
 
Senior Flute Ensemble
1.  Solo piece, without accompaniment, that best represents the students ability
2.  Major scales up to 5 sharps and 5 flats, chromatic scale - two octaves, half note = 120, all slurred and/or tongued
 
Junior Flute Ensemble
1.  Solo piece, without accompaniment, that best represents the students ability
2.  Major scales up to 3 flats/sharps, two octave chromatic scale; all slurred/tongued at half note = 120
 
Wind Ensemble
1.  Solo piece, without accompaniment, that best represents the students ability
2.  Scales: Winds and Brass - Chromatic, two major scales up to 3 flats and 3 sharps, two octaves (Flute - see Junior Flute Choir)
3.  Excerpts: None required.
