THE CHESAPEAKE YOUTH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Symphony Orchestra - A full symphony orchestra of advanced student musicians performing major symphonic repertoire. The Symphony
performs several full concerts each year in Annapolis and surrounding communities. Special guest artists and concerto competition
winners are invited to join the Symphony in concert.
Concert Orchestra - A full orchestra of intermediate-to-advanced students
performing from the standard orchestral repertoire as well as new works. The Concert Orchestra performs several concerts
in the Annapolis area including a highly popular Kinderkonzert for young audiences.
String Orchestra - An all-strings ensemble
of intermediate middle school students. The String Orchestra perform works adapted from the standard orchestral literature.
Preparatory
Strings - An all-strings ensemble of elementary and middle school students. The basics of ensemble playing are learned as well as
an introduction to orchestral literature.
Junior & Senior Flute Ensembles - The Junior Flute Ensemble is a group
of developing flutists who perform music of grade difficulty level II, III, and IV. Flutists of the highest ability
level, generally of high school age, make up the Senior Flute Emsemble, performing music of grade levels IV, V, and
VI. Both ensembles explore an eclectic repertoire of music from the Renaissance through the 21st Century. Students enjoy
playing several members of the flute family including the bass and alto flutes.
Wind Ensemble - Intermediate brass and wind players
develop skills and techniques in this unique ensemble for younger performers. Works written for wind ensemble and adapted works from
the standard repertoire are performed.
