William Schachter - Conductor, Preparatory Orchestra
William Schachter grew up in Montgomery County, Maryland and is a graduate
of the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music with a concentration on cello. He completed his graduate work at the University
of Maryland and the Peabody Conservatory of Music.
Mr. Schacter's many years of conducting includes area band and orchestra
festivals, Arlington Echo Music Camp and the Bryn Mawr Music Camp. He has guest conducted all county groups throughout
the state of Maryland. Mr. Schachter is also very active as an adjudicator at the county and state level in both solo
and ensemble festivals and band and orchestra festivals. In 1996 Mr. Schachter was named to that year's edition of "Who's
Who Among American Teachers."
Mr. Schachter retired after 31 years in Anne Arundel County and he is currently teaching strings
at Thomas Pullen Arts Focus School in Prince Georges County. His groups have received numerous "superior" ratings
on the county, state and national levels. Mr. Schachter is a member of the American String Teacher's Association, the National
School Orchestra Association, The Music Educator's National Conference, The Maryland Band Director's Association, and the Maryland
Orchestra Director's Association.
When not playing golf, Mr. Schachter likes to spend his free time composing and arranging.
His music has been performed at many elementary and secondary schools, at the District Band and Orchestra Festival, and at the
Maryland State Orchestra Festival. In 1996, Mr. Schachter was commissioned to compose a piece for the Carroll County All-County
Middle School Orchestra.
