Chamber Orchestra

JULIEN BENICHOU, Conductor

The Chamber Orchestra offers advanced high school music students and university music majors the opportunity to broaden their experience with baroque and early classical works, and with romantic and modern repertoire written for smaller ensembles. The Chamber Orchestra performs with renowned soloists in premier venues, and has also been featured in well known European festivals. 

 

Symphony Orchestra

A full symphony orchestra of advanced student musicians performing major symphonic repertoire. The Symphony performs several full concerts each year in Annapolis and surrounding communities. Special guest artists and concerto competition winners are invited to join the Symphony in concert.

 

Concert Orchestra

CHRISTOPHER CICCONI, Conductor

A full orchestra of intermediate-to-advanced students performing from the standard orchestral repertoire as well as new works. The Concert Orchestra performs several concerts in the Annapolis area including a highly popular Kinderkonzert for young audiences.

 

String Orchestra

ROB STOJAKOVICH, Conductor

An all-strings ensemble of intermediate middle school students. The String Orchestra perform works adapted from the standard orchestral literature.

 

Preparatory Orchestra

An all-strings ensemble of elementary and middle school students. The basics of ensemble playing are learned as well as an introduction to orchestral literature.

 

Senior Flute Ensemble

GAIL VEHSLAGE, Conductor

While both Senior and Junior ensembles explore an eclectic repertoire of music from the Renaissance to the 21st century, the flutists of the highest ability level, generally of high school age, make up the Senior Flute Ensemble, performing music of grade levels IV, V, and VI. 

Students enjoy playing the various members of the flute family, including piccolo, C flute, alto flute and bass flute. Performances have included Carnegie Hall, the Maryland Statehouse, numerous local auditoriums and churches and the White House. The Senior Flute Ensemble is included in CYSO’s travels abroad.

 

Junior Flute Ensemble

GAIL VEHSLAGE, Conductor

The Junior Flute Ensemble is a group of developing flutists who perform music of intermediate difficulty level, around grades II and III.

The Junior ensemble also enjoys a wide-range of styles, from the Renaissance to modern compositions.

 

Jazz Ensemble

The mission of the CYSO Jazz Ensemble is to foster an appreciation for the rich history and music of the truly American art form - jazz.

With members from as young as the 6th grade up through students who currently attend college, the jazz band ideally showcases (5) saxophones, (4) trombones, (5) trumpets, piano, guitar, bass, drums and a vocalist. 

Musicians who audition and are selected for this group will enjoy an experience that focuses on ensemble skills, improvisation, technique and musicianship. The Jazz Ensemble performs regularly at community outreach events for civic organizations and has been a featured ensemble "side by side" with the US ARMY BLUES Jazz Ensemble, Washington DC. 

 

Wind Ensemble

Intermediate brass and wind players develop skills and techniques in this unique ensemble for younger performers. Works written for wind ensemble and adapted works from the standard repertoire are performed.
