CYSO Summer Camps
The Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestra is excited to offer two outstanding summer music camps for students of varying ages and experience levels. Both camps provide students with the opportunity to develop their musicianship, work with experienced educators, make new friends, and enjoy a week of collaborative music-making.

Advanced Summer Orchestra Camp
Ages 14–18
Camp Director: Carlos Castrillón
The Advanced Summer Orchestra Camp is designed for experienced high school musicians seeking a challenging and rewarding orchestral experience. Students will participate in full orchestra rehearsals, chamber music, sectionals, masterclasses, and workshops focused on ensemble performance, musical interpretation, leadership, and artistic growth.
Led by Carlos Castrillón, Director of Bands and Associate Director of Orchestras at DeMatha Catholic High School, this camp provides students with the opportunity to work alongside dedicated musicians from across the region while developing the skills needed for advanced youth orchestras, honor ensembles, and collegiate music opportunities.

About Carlos Castrillón
Carlos Castrillón is the Director of Bands and Associate Director of Orchestras at DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland. Under his leadership, the DeMatha Wind Ensemble was named the 2026 Outstanding National Catholic Concert Band of the Year for the second consecutive year and the twentieth time overall. The DeMatha Sinfonia was also recognized as the 2026 Outstanding National Catholic Orchestra of the Year, becoming the inaugural recipient of this national award.
A graduate of the University of Maryland and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Mr. Castrillón is an accomplished educator, conductor, performer, clinician, and adjudicator who brings a wealth of experience to the CYSO Summer Camp program.
Intermediate Summer Orchestra Camp
Ages 10–14
Camp Director: Robert Stojakovich
The Intermediate Summer Orchestra Camp is designed for developing musicians who are looking to strengthen their skills, build confidence, and experience the excitement of making music with other young performers.
Students will participate in full ensemble rehearsals, sectionals, chamber music activities, and musicianship classes in a fun, supportive, and encouraging environment. The camp is open to string, woodwind, brass, and percussion students.

About Robert Stojakovich
Robert Stojakovich recently retired after a distinguished 38-year career teaching music in Anne Arundel County Public Schools at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Throughout his career, he developed a reputation for building strong music programs and fostering meaningful connections with students.
In addition to his work as an educator, Mr. Stojakovich currently serves as Director of the United States Naval Academy Drum and Bugle Corps. His passion for music education, leadership, and student growth makes him an outstanding mentor for young musicians.

Thanks to the generosity of our grant partners and donors, partial and full scholarships are available for both summer camps. We believe every student should have the opportunity to participate regardless of financial circumstances.
